How the lease-on program works
Apply
Tell us whether you're an owner-operator or an authority holder, and what equipment you run.
We vet and match
We check drivers, equipment, and carrier authority and safety records, then make the match.
Sign the lease
The owner-operator and carrier sign a written lease under 49 CFR Part 376, directly with each other.
Start hauling
The truck is marked with the carrier's name and USDOT number, and we start dispatching.
Done right, under Part 376
Running under someone else's authority is legal only through a real equipment lease. The authorized carrier leases the truck, takes responsibility for it during the lease, keeps insurance in force, and handles safety compliance. We don't sell or rent MC numbers, and we don't work with anyone who wants to.
Written lease, every time
Signed by both parties, with pay terms, charge-backs, and insurance spelled out.
Carrier stays responsible
The authorized carrier is the motor carrier for the leased truck during the lease.
Safety programs included
Drivers are enrolled in the carrier's drug and alcohol testing program and qualification files.
Vetted on both sides
We check owner-operators and carriers before making any match.
Lease-on questions
Is running under another carrier's MC legal?
Yes, when it's done through a written equipment lease that follows 49 CFR Part 376. The carrier leases your truck, displays its name and USDOT number on it, and takes responsibility for operating it during the lease. Buying, selling, or renting an MC number on its own is not allowed.
Who carries the insurance when I'm leased on?
The authorized carrier must keep the required public liability insurance. Your lease spells out who pays for other coverage, such as bobtail or physical damage, and any charge-backs.
Does Dispatchero own the authority I lease on to?
No. We connect you with authorized carriers in our network. Your lease is signed directly between you and that carrier. We handle dispatch for your truck.
I hold an MC. What do I have to do if owner-operators lease on?
You stay the motor carrier for those trucks. That means keeping insurance in force, enrolling drivers in your drug and alcohol testing program, keeping driver qualification files and records, and following the lease rules in 49 CFR Part 376. We handle recruiting, vetting, and dispatch.
How do you vet owner-operators?
We check CDL and experience, MVR and PSP records, equipment condition and inspections, and references before we present a driver to a carrier.
How long are lease terms?
Lease terms are set in the written lease signed between the carrier and the owner-operator. Our dispatch terms are flexible.
